GL Accountant.
Purpose:
The Senior GL Accountant contributes to the department’s goals of accurate and timely reporting of financial data to internal and external stakeholders by performing a variety of tasks as they relate to the activities of the plants and co packing, tracking and valuation of milk and cream inventories.
The individual will utilize effectively an ERP system in a production environment.
Essential Responsibilities:
Review and reconcile all milk accounting transactions through accounts payable to the quality reports as it relates to invoices and producer payrolls
Reconcile milk to invoices and facilitate timely payment for milk and reporting of milk and transportation costs
Prepare journal entries or entries to accounts payable for purchase price variance, volume variance.
loss reporting and transportation expense as needed
Assist with analyzing the plan versus actual milk cost each month and provide reporting as needed or requested
Month end accruals for milk & related costs
Month end close processes of milk & cream movement, milk & cream hauling by following established procedures and making suggestions for improvement as appropriate to ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial results
Work with plant and utilization personnel to reconcile inventory variances between physical counts and perpetual system as well as to ensure clean cut offs
Create/update monthly balance sheet account reconciliations for areas of responsibilities; communicate discrepancies
Become proficient with ERP system, researching milk and cream inventory transactions, trouble shooting, reversals and inventory adjustments
Prepare reports for regulatory agencies, as assigned by your manager
Other duties to support cost accounting team
Assist the Sr.
Manager of Cost Accounting in evaluation, testing and implementation of ERP system enhancements, including writing test plans and testing system updates with proper communication to IT
Other duties as assigned by the Sr.
Manager of Cost Accounting, Controller and CFO
Other Required Responsibilities
Provide assistance to finance management by preparing support schedules to be used in meeting periodic internal and external reporting requirements
Provide supporting documentation for audits as requested
Support information requests from other management personnel for responsibility areas
Assist with writing and maintaining SOPs to document processes for areas of responsibility
Knowledge and Experience:
Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance establishing the ground work for competencies in accounting practice and theory, which are called upon daily in the performance of the job
4+ years related experience including general ledger accounting, account reconciliation and ERP experience in a production environment, where accounting practice and theory are applied to a variety of business activities, providing the framework to contribute immediately to the department’s goals
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit and focus for extended periods of time in front of a computer screen and/or while utilizing various office equipment (calculators, copy machines, etc.
).
