Job Summary
JILA at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Temporary Senior Accountant! The Accountant is responsible for maintaining, monitoring and analyzing a wide variety of accounting and budgetary records and information to ensure reliability, timeliness and accuracy.
This position will contribute within a collaborative team to identify accounting and financial process issues and to participate in the development and implementation of systems and process improvements; and act as the primary liaison with the Campus Controller’s Office in resolving system or specific issues and questions as they arise.
The goals of this position are to: Participate within the larger finance team and provide accounting support to sponsored research specialists and the COO.
Conduct the financial and accounting a operations within JILA to ensure compliant, accurate, timely and reliable records are kept.
Advise the JILA Chief of Operations on financial and accounting issues, and Communicate within JILA and with other units on campus to enhance the accounting activities of JILA and to ensure that JILA is presented in a positive and professional manner as a best-in-class research institute on the CU Boulder campus.
These goals are met by building effective, positive and collaborative working relationships with sponsored research administration staff team, JILA Staff, and Fellows as well as University employees within the Campus Controller’s Office and RIO; by prioritizing attention to detail, accuracy and timeliness and by proactively ensuring collegial communication and follow-up.
The position provides limited analysis, as well as detailed financial reports for use by individuals within JILA, RIO and CCO.

edu/ What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be Transaction processing: Prepare journal entries, cash transfers and other financial transactions to include required documentation.
Review travel reports for completeness and compliance prior to final approval by Sponsored Project Team.
Maintain and supervise organizational budget and accounting records in the CU system, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
Accurate and timely data entry into JILA data systems including Directory, FileMaker and Projections.
Responsible for preparing and processing cash receipts.
Prepare, submit and process requests for speedtypes in the CU and JILA data systems JILA Shops Financial Management: Prepare biweekly and monthly shops reports in support of allocating costs to sponsored research and other JILA/CU/NIST speedtypes Prepare monthly billings Financial Oversight and Review: Develop, implement and monitor standard processes for areas of responsibility.
Be responsible for the reconciliation and monitoring of JILA non-research speedtypes.
Prepare regular financial analysis of JILA Shops and JILA General Fund.
Prepare other financial analysis as mutually agreed upon with JILA Chief of Operations.
Identify accounting concerns and make routine financial recommendations to JILA Chief of Operations.

What We Require Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in accounting, finance or related field.
Appropriate experience will substitute for the degree on a year for year basis.
One year of experience in accounting and financial administration within a complex environment such as a university.
