We educate and empower our clients to decarbonize their built environment by deploying onsite solar, battery storage and other cleantech projects POSTION: Founding Software Engineer LOCATION: Remote (Colorado preferred; required to visit Black Bear corporate office in Boulder periodically) JOB DESCRIPTION: We are seeking an entrepreneurial and versatile founding software engineer to spearhead Black Bear's inaugural software team.
This role will contribute to our market leading position in the solar industry by developing cutting-edge software.
Additionally, this position will be responsible for building out a larger technical team over time.
The ideal candidate thrives in uncharted territory, is energized by the freedom to innovate, and excels at crafting solutions from the ground up with minimal guidance.
Our operations team has outlined a software roadmap, which includes collaborative projects with our parent company, Legence.
We need a visionary engineer who can not only execute this roadmap but also shape and guide its evolution.
Furthermore, you'll play a pivotal role in collaborating with external contractors currently crafting a GIS tool.
Key Responsibilities: • Work closely with the operations team to create product roadmaps for in-house Black Bear software projects • Design and develop new software programs for Black Bear and external users • Improve reliability of existing client-facing software platforms • Build add-on modules to existing software platforms • Build and maintain APIs that securely communicate between back-end and front-end applications • Lead technical design communication between Black Bear and GIS platform contractors • Explore opportunities for data engineering improvements within existing database systems and recommend solutions for technical debt elimination • Build out a larger software/technical team overtime to support the various software platforms Preferred Experience and Skills: • 5+ years of experience in software development; startup experience preferred • Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable information for operations team • Proficiency in languages including JavaScript/TypeScript for both frontend and backend work • Experience with REST/HTTP API • Experience with Infrastructure/DevOps using AWS, Kubernetes, Docker • Knowledge of linux systems and deploying applications in cloud environments • Familiarity with frontend frameworks including React, HTML/CSS • Knowledge of Geospatial data structures • Experience with PostgreSQL databases • Familiarity with Django applications • Comfort with ambiguity and a “figure it out” attitude • Ability to manage and align interconnected goals between Legence's portfolio companies and Black Bear's software platforms #LI-JS1 #LI-Remote Health and Welfare Benefits • Medical • Dental • Vision • Prescription drug • Short and long term disability • Parental leave Personal Benefits • Flexible paid time off • Personal days • Company-paid holidays Financial Benefits • 401(k) retirement savings plan • AD&D insurance • Life insurance About Legence Legence, a Blackstone portfolio company, is an Energy Transition Accelerator™ that provides advisory services and implementation focused on financing, designing, building, and servicing complex systems in mission-critical and high performance facilities.
