*Definition:*
The City of Longmont Public Works and Engineering Streets and Drainage team needs data collection support for new and existing asset management programs as well as stormwater facility inspections and evaluation for the Stormwater Program.
This position involves: collecting and cataloging data through field inspections of the City’s curb ramps, pedestrian pushbuttons, street signage, and transit stops; conducting site inspections and design documentation review of stormwater facilities to determine functionality and identify deficiencies; and general support for various capital improvement projects.
This effort is in support of the City’s ADA Transition Plan, Stormwater Program, and Asset Management Programs.
Work for this position will take place primarily in the field with some office work.
*Principal Duties:*
· Independently conduct field inspections and measurements of City’s transportation assets.
· Collect and catalog data through field inspections of the City’s curb ramps, pedestrian pushbuttons, sidewalks, street signs, and transit stops.
· Data entry using City-provided mobile device on Survey123 and Field Maps platforms, two daughter programs of ESRI GIS Software.
Utilization and navigation of GIS software.
· Independently conduct field inspections of stormwater facilities including permanent stormwater controls, inlets, outfalls, and other stormwater assets.
· Assess the functionality of the stormwater facilities and identify any deficiencies of the facility.
· Compare field conditions to the documented design information found in drainage reports and construction drawings.
· Observe safety practices and standards when working in areas proximal to traffic and roadways.
Utilize safe driving skills when operating City-owned vehicles during field work.
*Working Environment:*
Work outside is required and intern will be subject to weather environments that vary.
Work for this position will take place primarily in the field with some office work.
Travel to inspections sites is required.
Field work will take place in close proximity to traveling vehicles.
This position operates partially in a professional office environment with routine use of standard office equipment.
Position requires the ability to work outside.
Work requires bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, and walking for extended periods of time.
*Qualifications:*
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the first year of study at an accredited college or university for Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), or related field.
Must be currently enrolled.
_*Special Qualifications:*_ Possession of a valid driver’s license is required.
